K-1 Academic Coach Message

Stephanie Payne

Hi! I’m Stephanie Payne, the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Academic Coach.

Here at CCPS, we are on the road to reading! Our awesome teachers use integrated content units for ELA instruction. Science and Social Studies content is embedded in our ELA curriculum to make learning meaningful and relevant! Students participate in Interactive Read Aloud time, Grammar and Writing, and Small Group time. Language-rich centers also take place in Kindergarten. Both grade levels use Heggerty Phonemic Awareness and UFLI Foundations Phonics Program to ensure a solid foundation for reading success!

Our math curriculum provided by the Georgia Department of Education aligns to Georgia’s New Mathematics Standards and focuses on the development of mathematical understanding.  Students are learning math concepts through engaging tasks by using manipulatives and a variety of representations.  All students think differently, so we teach multiple strategies when solving problems.  Students are encouraged to find the best strategy for them and explain their thinking when problem solving. Students participate in Number Talks, whole group tasks, and small group activities as well in order to build a strong mathematical foundation as well.
